We're still lagging behind in our blogging, but better later then never!
We took a short trip to the 'Berg's of Germany over Easter this year. We took a short flight to Frankfurt, then hired a car and drove down to our first stop in Heidelberg. It was a little different to Heidelberg in Melbourne, and a delightful city to visit.
Heidelberg
Our lovely, and well-priced, hotel by the river in Heidelberg. I quite liked the decor in this room, with the dark floorboards, white walls and white 'french country' finish furniture and caramel coloured drapes. I took lots of snaps for inspiration for our home (one day!)
Somehow the beer tasted extra good when consumed from these ceramic steins
We visited on Easter weekend, and everywhere we went people had decorated trees with these handpainted eggs, usually either real eggs or made from wood
The castle, with an Aussie basketball team who were on tour, in the foreground. They all seemed to be young guys, and as you would expect, all very very tall. It's always nice hearing the Aussie accent when you're touring around
Teeny tiny car...
We drove out to Neustadt in search of wine, Riesling in particular. We found the vineyards and the Weinstrasse (wine street, which is a tourist road that goes through the major grape growing centres of Germany) but unfortunately most of the shops were closed due to the Easter holiday, so we left thirsty. Lovely town though...
Our second port of call was Rothenberg ob ter Tauber, an original mediveal town that managed to survive the war (any many other wars and attempts to seige / sack / destroy it over the years). Just gorgeous....
Pretty spring flowers...
Another nice room, in an old-school hotel, with a gorgeous view over the Tauber valley
Shaggs, looking cool on the town wall...
They had the best wrought iron shop signs...
They have the mother of all Christmas shop's in Rothenberg. This place was unbelievable. This photo shows just a small section within the shop
Happy Easter...
Guess what? More beer!
The Belgian dip...
Mini-beer. This was actually a beer liquor. I was (suprisingly) quite nice actually...
Our final destination was Bamburg. We actually stayed in a brewery hotel in Neuhaus, just outside of Bamberg. Nauhaus was a little village in the middle of nowhere. The place we stayed is a working brewery / guesthouse (only in Germany!), and they had delicious food and (of course) beer. That's where we tried the beer liquor. We drove to Bamberg the next day and had a look around before flying back to London that evening.
